In the Jungle…

For the next few weeks, I am in Ulpotha, discrete and out of the way yoga resort, deep in the Sri Lanka Jungle. Normal blog service will be resumed in the new year. Meantime, from all of us here in sling-central, thanks for your support and attention over 2008, look forward to the rash of slingshot movies that will be released globally in the first half of 2009 (starting with FAINTHEART on 27 January in the UK, followed by FRENCH FILM on 29 Jaunary in the US) and have a happy holiday season.

Why is French Film going straight to DVD in Canada on January 20th 2009, under an alternative title, one week before it goes on general release in the US?

An exclusive Chichester pre-release screening of French Film will be staged by actor Hugh Bonneville in aid of Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust. Hugh will introduce French Film at Cineworld Chichester on Thursday January 15 at 8pm as a fund-raiser towards his participation in next year’s Trailwalker event. More here:

Dianne – the Canadians felt that the title FRENCH FILM would be off-putting to Canadian audiences – some of whom (apparently) are not too enthusiastic about their imperial ancestors…
Neither the Canadian nor the US release is, alas, a full theatrical one, but a mix of DVD and Cable Television / PPV. Much as our north american cousins loved the movie, they felt that it would not succeed theatrically without a bigger name star in the cast.
The Film has had a limited theatrical release in Australia and we will follow suit in the UK in late Sprint 2009.
